Savage 110 & 340
Barrel Nut Wrench
The Savage Arms Model 110 family of rifles is gaining
in custom popularity. Our shop is installing more new
barrels on these rifles than ever before.

The setting of head space on these guns is simple
with the right tools. Without them it can be a
nightmare. Holding the barrel, recoil lug and receiver
in perfect alignment while applying torque to the nut
without distorting it can be a chore, to say the least.

We first addressed the problem of the nut with the
assistance of a former employee of Savage Arms. He
showed me the wrench that Savage used for their 340's.
It was made from ½ " bar stock, had a handle about
three foot long and a massive head that gripped every
notch on the nut. Following that design we CNC machined
a couple of samples of both models and tried them on our
next job. They worked great, held fast and didn’t make
a mark on the nut. The production wrench is laser cut
from 4140 steel and will last a lifetime. The handle is
5" long with a 2 ½" head. We use a 4' breaker
bar and have had no trouble at all loosening or
tightening the nuts.
